Mapinguari（MapinguaryまたはIsnashi）は、ブラジルとボリビアのアマゾンの熱帯多雨林に住んでいる、赤毛で高さ6フィートの地上ナマケモノの様な生物に似ている伝説的な未確認動物です。
名前は通常、「騒々しい動物」、「オオカミの岬」、「すりこぎ(pestle)の手」「瓶(びん)足」または「悪臭を放つ獣」と訳されます。
ブラジルの物語によると、Mapinguariはかつて、数千年前に不死の鍵を発見したアマゾン族のシャーマンでした。
彼は神を怒らせて、発見に関してひどく罰せられました。
そしてそれは彼に、彼の人生の残りの時間を流離う(さすらう) 獣に変わることを強制しました。
大部分の目撃例は巨大な「ナマケモノ」として野獣(beast) を描写(show) します。
しかし、2、3はそれを類人猿のような生きものとみなします。
大部分の未確認動物学者はマピングアリ(Mapinguari) がメガテリウム(Megatherium=地域に住んでいた氷河時代からの、大きく巨大な地上ナマケモノ）であると推測します。
または Giant Sloth.Megatheruim の別種も生存の可能性があると推測しています。
それは、数ポンドのMapinguari「毛」と「糞」が分析された、多くの目撃事件(incidents) のある南アメリカに住んでいました。
そして、それはオオアリクイの付着物(deposits) と小さな齧歯動物の毛であることが判明しただけでした。
しかし、スカンクエイプのもののようにはそれほど酷くはないですが、おそらく身の毛もよだつような臭いがこのクリーチャーにもあります。
それは、時々その胃の中央に口があるヒューマノイド型クリーチャーであるといわれています。
