昭和54(1979)年、海底に眠る全長10mものスケルトンを、若狭湾沖の海底でダイバーが発見、サメの類いかと思われたが骨組織がサメとは異なっており正体は不明、
骨格は陸地から200m、水深5mの海底に横たわったていた。
