ジョンストン(Johnston)、63は、彼が湖の近くの待避場で停止することを決めたとき、彼と彼の妻、ジャネット(Janet) はスコットランド高地(High lands) での、2週間のドライブ休暇が終わりに近づいてきたと述べました。
「生きもの」が出てくる前、彼は午前9時ごろネス湖(Loch Ness) の端へと進んで、数分だけそこに立っていました。
「私は、気が変になっていると思いました」と、彼は言いました。
「私の心に飛び込んだ最初の考えは象です。
私はそれが愚かに聞こえるということを知っています、しかし、それは象の鼻(trunk) のように見えました。同様な(same) 長さと幅でした。
私は生きものがアナゴ(conger eel) であるかどうかはわかりませんでした、しかし、それはあまりにも大きかったです。
それは水面からおよそ7または8フィート(2.4384m) でした、そして、それのより多くが湖面の下にあったことは明らかでした。」
