南米パタゴニアで巨大草食獣捜索！8000年前に絶滅したはずの幻の古代獣は生きていた！？
大きなものは体長６ｍもある。
それはアマゾンのジャングルの原住民が「見たことがある」と言っている毛むくじゃらの大きな生き物。
この正体は、絶滅したと思われている巨大ナマケモノのメガテリウム、ミロドンなどではないかと言われている。
1895年、のチリの調査団が洞窟を探索。そこで世界中に衝撃を与える発見をした。
なんと真新しいミロドンの毛皮を発見した。

かつてアメリカ大陸の全域に生息していたというミロドンは、未だ生息しているのであろうか？
また最近まで生きていたかのような頭蓋骨も見つかったこともある。
1895年以来、毛皮も次々と発見されている。ふさふさとした体毛がはっきりと残っている。
8000年前のミロドンのフンも見つかっている。
この中に、ミロドン生存の可能性を握る、重要な鍵があった。
フンの中に含まれていたのは、現在も変わらずパタゴニアに生息している植物。ミロドンのエサは今も豊富にあるということだ。
ミロドンの頭蓋骨には、未だ筋肉の跡が生々しく残っている。これが8000年以上前の物とは考えにくい。
　「サンプルの多くは洞窟の中で見つけました。つまりミロドンが生きていく為には、洞窟が必要だということです。人目に付きにくい洞窟に住んでいるからこそ、目撃証言はあっても生存が確認されないのです。」
