水の精。邪神の名前である「Cthulhu」は、本来人間には発音不能な音を表記したもの。
遥か古代に地球に降り立った種族の長。
太古に地球を支配していたが現在は地上から姿を消している、強大な力を持つ恐るべき異形のものども。
旧支配者の一柱であり、彼らの司祭役を務めているともされる、太平洋の底で眠っているという、タコやイカに似た頭部を持つ軟体動物を巨人にしたようなクトゥルフは有名。

太平洋ポナペ島沖の海底に在る幾何学の狂った都市ルルイエに幽閉されている。
その姿は、タコ・イカ・クラゲ・竜の様で、うろこに覆われた未発達の大きな翼蝕椀の付いた頭部、さまざまな、目撃例も在るという。
過去、再生復活されかけたが。そのたびに、大きな、混乱に見舞われた。
再び、この時代に復活をもくろむ噂も在る。
