ジュエルボックス？『ミラースパイダー(Thwaitesia)』【Jewel Box? "Mirror spider"】

　クモの仲間は世界に約3万5千種以上いると言われており、まだ名前が付けられてない種も多く存在するそうだから、桁外れの多種多様なクモに満ち溢れている。

その中には変わり種のクモも多く存在する。
　このミラースパイダー（Thwaitesia）もそのうちの1つであろう。

腹部にキラッキラの鏡がモザイク状にちりばめられているまさにクモ界の宝石箱である。

　しかもこの鏡状となっている部分は、脅威を感じることで大きさが変化するのだ。

このキラッキラの腹部は、節足動物や魚類のウロコ（皮膚）の色素胞細胞が生成するグアニン結晶と同じ構造でできているという。

　主に熱帯地方に生息するそうで、これらの画像はシンガポールなどで撮影されたものだそうだ。

大きさはメスが4.5ミリ前後、オスが2.7ミリ前後と非常に小さい。その他毒性はあるのか？どれくらいの種が存在するのか？など、詳しいことはまだわかっていないそうだ。
